Benefits of membership in NRVBA abound.  You'll learn something new at every meeting.   You will meet interesting people and make new friends, with whom you'll share the fascinating experience of keeping honeybees.  You'll hear fascinating speakers -- apiarists, other beekeepers who specialize in certain flavors of honey or particular types of honeybees, scientists who experiment with, study and research honeybees, their genetics, habits and diseases.  You'll hear of local, state, national and worldwide beekeeping conferences, and attend these at slightly reduced rates as a member of NRVBA.   NRVBA often presents a spring workshop for new beekeepers, in cooperation with the Apiary Dept. at VA Tech.  Apiarists from VA Tech's Entomology Department and VA Dept. of Agriculture speak to our group and are readily available via email for occasional beekeeping questions.    The Association occasionally purchases supplies in bulk order, passing on savings to members.  Members have full access to the website, roster of other members and the listserv to network with other members.   NRVBA has an inventory of equipment, videos, books which members may borrow.   This inventory includes an electric extractor, hot knife, triple-strainer kit, and buckets to assist members in harvesting and bottling honey.   Members may receive a small discount on Bee Culture and American Bee Journal magazines.    One supplier allows free shipping on the first order placed by NRVBA new beekeepers.

NRVBA stands for New River Valley Beekeepers Association, a group of hobby and commercial beekeepers who keep bees for honey, pollination, challenged by all there is to learn.  The NRVBA is interested in expanding this pasttime, which is essential to agriculture, and just plain fun (as well as lots of work, if one has many hives).  Members of the NRVBA serve local communities by participating in public events to expand the awareness of the public to all the benefits of having honeybees in our midst.

Visitors and guests are welcome at meetings, held the second Thursday each month, 7:00 p.m., in the Community Room of the Montgomery County Health and Human Services Building, 210 W. Pepper Street South, Christiansburg, VA, phone 540-382-5776. No meeting is held in December or January.
